RECOMMENDATIONS
of CASPCOM workgroup to the 15th CASPCOM Session

In accordance with the recommendations of the 14th CASPCOM Session, the CASPCOM workgroup meeting, participated by national hydrometeorology organizations of the Caspian states: Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Russia, was held on 19 October 2010 in Astrakhan.
In accordance with the endorsed Agenda, the meeting looked into the state of affairs in the preparation of the General Catalogue of the sea level, field work on the Caspian Sea water area and CASPAS projects for 2011-2013.
The Workgroup recommends to the 15th CASPCOM Session:

  1. To give positive assessment to the results of the preparation of the General Catalogue of the Caspian Sea level, taking into account that the work to prepare monthly data on Azerbaijani, Kazakh and Russian coasts has been completed, data on the Turkmen coast have been prepared for the period from the start of observations to 1988, and the work on the Iranian coast is about to complete.
  2. To address to Turkmenhydromet with a request to submit monthly data on the sea level for the period 1989 – 2008 and to address to the IRIMO with a request to accelerate the preparation of the monthly data on the sea level for the whole observation period. CASPAS Coordinator is to include the data presented by Turkmenhydromet and IRIMO into the summary tables of the Catalogue.
  3. To take into account, that field work aimed at marine environment research is carried out regularly or occasionally at the sea water area, adjacent to the coastlines of all the Caspian states. Therefore it is recommended to offer the NHMSs, conducting long-term observations, to coordinate their activities in time; to offer all the NHMSs to use modern observation equipment (fixed and floating buoys, stations at the oil platforms and satellite observations) in addition to ship observations and to coordinate their activities.
  4. 4. In 2011-2013 to complete the preparation of the General Catalogue of the Caspian Sea level and to start the preparation of catalogues, containing observation data of water temperature and ice conditions.
