  1. Workgroup is established according to recommendations of 11th Session of Coordinating Committee on Hydrometeorology and Pollution Monitoring of the Caspian Sea (Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, 30 November – 1 December 2005).
  2. In accordance with the mentioned recommendations the main tasks of Workgroup are as follows:
  • Analyse the existing atmospheric circulation  models and hydrodynamic models of the Caspian Sea  as well as the other сlose and semi-close seas;
  • Assess implementing regional models efficiency for diagnostics and forecast of wind, sea waves, currents, wind surges, water exchange, transport of pollutants and emergency oil spills in the Caspian Sea;
  • Improve regional models and prepare recommendations for model applications to cope with practical and scientific tasks in the field of hydrometeorology and pollution monitoring of the Caspian Sea.
  • Workgroup is composed of representatives of five NHMSs – CASPCOM members (one expert from each NHMS). Workgroup experts are nominated (withdrawn) by the leaders of national hydrometeorological services.
  • Workgroup activities are implemented through information exchange between experts on the issues related to Workgroup competence as well as through regular synthesis of national and joint experience in the field of hydrodynamic modeling of the Caspian Sea.
  1. Information exchange between experts – Workgroup members – is done through correspondence. Each expert has the right to request and obtain information of relevant competence from the other Workgroup members.
  2. With the aim of regular synthesis of national experience each of the Workgroup members prepares by 30 September of the current year an Annual National Report on hydrodynamic modeling of the Caspian Sea and forwards it to the other Workgroup members, CASPCOM Secretary and CASPAS Coordinator.
  3. With the aim of regular synthesis of joint experience the Workgroup meeting is held once in three years concurrently with the scheduled CASPCOM Session. The expert – Workgroup member – representative of CASCOM Chairmanship, chairs the meeting.
